Ingredients

For the crust
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast (or 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
For the toppings
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (preferably homemade or halal certified)
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers (red, green, or mixed)
  • 0.5 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup cooked halal pepperoni or chicken sausage
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix and knead: Gradually incorporate the flour into the wet ingredients until a dough begins to form. Knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Prepare the crust: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to fit your pie dish (about 12 inches).
  7. Assemble your pizza pie: Transfer the rolled dough to a greased pie dish. Spread pizza sauce on top, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Add your veggies and halal meats on top, then sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Serve: Let the pizza pie cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil, slice, and serve hot!

Notes

Prep ahead by making the dough a day in advance and refrigerating it after the first rise. Use high-quality cheese for the best flavor. Adjust cooking time as every oven is different.
