Description

A delightful twist on classic French onion soup, this French Onion Beef Sloppy combines tender beef with caramelized onions and gooey cheese, all served in sturdy buns for a satisfyingly indulgent meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 4 sturdy buns

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by chopping the onions and measuring out the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and shredded cheese.
  2. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the sliced onions and sauté until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes, draining any excess grease.
  4. Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and let simmer for approximately 10 minutes until flavors meld and mixture thickens.
  5. Sprinkle cheese over the mixture, cover, and let sit for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted.
  6. Scoop the beef and cheese mixture onto each bun and serve immediately.

Notes

For a lighter version, use ground turkey and dairy-free cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months.
