Description

A refreshing dessert that combines the tartness of cranberries with the bright sweetness of oranges, perfect for holiday gatherings or a simple family dinner.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries, washed and sorted
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 34 oranges)
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: whipped cream or yogurt for serving

Instructions

  1. Start by washing your cranberries thoroughly. Remove any stems or blemished fruits.
  2. Squeeze the juice from the fresh oranges until you have about 1 cup. Don’t forget to save some zest from one of the oranges!
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Stir well to combine everything evenly.
  4. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently until the cranberries have burst and the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. The mixture will thicken further as it cools.
  6. Once cooled, serve it warm or chilled, optionally dolloping some whipped cream or yogurt on top for added richness.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. This dish can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
