Description

Delightful puff pastry filled with sweet, buttery caramelized onions and creamy cheese, perfect as an appetizer or snack.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 large yellow onions (sliced)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 4 oz goat cheese or cream cheese (crumbled)
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 4-inch squares.
  3. Place squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Add sliced onions, cooking until golden brown and soft, about 25 minutes.
  6. Stir in thyme and balsamic vinegar in the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  7. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Spoon the caramelized onion mixture onto each pastry square and top with crumbled cheese.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

Notes

These tartlets can be prepared ahead of time. Freeze leftovers in airtight containers for up to 2-3 months.
